Mardi Gras is Carnival’s latest ship and entered service in 2021. The only ship to sink (partially) was Costa Concordia and is a sister brand to Carnival Cruise Line – both owned by the parent company Carnival Corporation. Built in 1985, the Carnival Holiday served with Carnival all the way through 2009.

This class of ship usually sails from ports like Tampa due to restrictions on taller ships. The 13 decks on the cruise ship can accommodate 2,764 passengers on double occupancy and 3,470 passengers on maximum occupancy. The maximum passenger capacity is 6,500, and the double occupancy capacity is 5,282. Carnival Cruise Line currently has one unnamed Excel-class ship on order.

What Is the Oldest Carnival Cruise Ship Still in Service?

Looking ahead, I’m excited to see what new innovations and upgrades Carnival Cruise Line has in store for their ships during future dry dock refurbishments. During dry dock refurbishments, Carnival Cruise Line ships undergo an average of $200 million in upgrades and renovations to improve guest experiences.
